Giza
Giza is a city located on the west bank of the Nile River, about 20 km southwest of Cairo. It is the capital of the Giza Governorate and part of the Greater Cairo metropolitan area. With a population of over 4.8 million, Giza is the third-largest city in Egypt by area and the fourth-largest in Africa.
Giza is best known as the site of the Giza Plateau, home to some of the most impressive ancient monuments in the world, including the Great Sphinx and the three major pyramids constructed during the Old Kingdom of ancient Egypt (c. 2650–2150 BCE). The city itself has a history dating back to prehistoric times, with Neolithic objects found in the area.
Today, Giza is a thriving city with modern housing, government offices, embassies, research institutes, hotels, parks, a zoo, and entertainment districts. It has a mix of ancient monuments and contemporary culture, attracting millions of tourists each year. The city is served by two airports, Cairo International Airport and Giza Sphinx International Airport, as well as bus routes and car rentals.
